US Ambassador Nicole McGraw says the double taxation agreement signed in December 2022 could reach a US Senate vote before the end of the year, according to Croatia Week.
According to Croatia Week, citing Hina, US Ambassador to Croatia Nicole McGraw has said that Croatia and the United States could resolve their long-standing double taxation issue before the end of the year. She said efforts are under way to secure ratification by the US Senate of the double taxation agreement the two countries signed in December 2022. The agreement has not yet been ratified by the US Senate, which leaves Croatia as the only European Union member state without a ratified double taxation treaty with the United States. McGraw said the agreement is back before the Senate and that a vote could be placed on the agenda before the end of the year. Croatia Week describes ratification as an important step in improving the tax framework for cross-border economic activity between the two countries. McGraw made the comments at a two-day leadership summit organised by the US Embassy in Zagreb. She said trade between Croatia and the US is growing and pointed to further potential in technology, energy and tourism, including possible golf course investment. The report does not detail the provisions of the agreement, and a Senate vote has not yet been scheduled, so the timing remains an expectation rather than a certainty.
