Cystat data show 2,915 building permits issued in Cyprus in the first four months of 2026, with approved apartments and houses jumping 65% year on year.
According to Cyprus-Real.Estate News, citing Cyprus's Statistical Service (Cystat), 2,915 building permits were issued in the country between January and April 2026, compared with 2,157 a year earlier – an increase of 35.1%. The housing figures are even stronger. The number of planned apartments and houses approved for construction rose 65%, to 7,131 units from 4,321. Residential permits totalled 2,154 for the year to date, up 33.6%, with 477 of them issued in April alone. Non-residential permits grew more modestly, by 4.9%, from 243 to 255. The value of work authorised rose 46.1%, from €1.14 billion to €1.67 billion, while the authorised floor area grew 45.5% to 1.35 million square metres. The publication notes that this is a signal for the future rather than the present: in Cyprus, years typically pass between a permit and a finished building. Still, approvals on this scale suggest that supply on the island, particularly in the apartment segment, should expand noticeably in a few years' time.
