According to Il Sole 24 Ore, Luxforsale Finance recorded a 63% increase in mortgage applications from foreign buyers in the first five months of 2026. The properties for which financing was requested had a total value of €21.4 million, against €14.59 million in January–May 2025, and the financing requested rose from €8.40 million to €12.27 million. The average property value was above €1.65 million.
The leading source markets are the United States, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Germany and the Scandinavian countries. The most sought-after regions are Lombardy, Tuscany, Liguria, Puglia and Sicily. Buyers are mainly entrepreneurs and managers, and about a quarter intend to establish permanent residence in Italy.
Luxforsale chief executive Claudio Citzia is quoted as saying Italy is no longer chosen merely as a second-home destination but increasingly as a place to live and to transfer part of one's assets. The article lists quality of life, safety, market stability and tax benefits among the attractions. The figures come from one lender's portfolio and cover the luxury segment, not the whole Italian market.
