According to elDinero, citing the latest bulletin of the Direct Housing Construction Cost Index (ICDV) from the Dominican Republic's National Statistics Office (ONE), the indicator stood at 250.81 points in August 2026, up from 240.62 in July. That equals a monthly rise of 4.22%, a cumulative 6.19% since the start of the year and 6.42% year on year. The main driver was labor, which rose 12% in a single month. Materials increased 0.61% and tools 0.39%, while subcontracts and machinery edged down by 0.02% and 0.11% respectively. The trades with the biggest increases, each up 12% on the month, included carpentry, electrical work, masonry, excavation, plumbing installation and day labor. By building type, single-family one-storey homes saw the sharpest rise: 5.14%, to 260.79 points. Two-storey homes rose 4.43% (253.19 points). Multifamily buildings moved more moderately: four-storey buildings gained 3.87% (245.36 points), and buildings of eight storeys or more gained 3.45% (243.90 points). The ICDV tracks direct construction costs in the Distrito Nacional and Santo Domingo province. It excludes land, design, building permits, financing and business margins, so it reflects only the inputs needed to carry out the works rather than final property prices.
